The contract was a fixed price contract for demolition of an existing structure, construction of a new 7500-ton capacity slat storage facility approximately 54 feet wide by 204 feet long and 37 feet tall and it also houses a 20,000-gallon capacity brine storage tank. There were numerous underground utilities and agencies within the immediate proximity that needed to be respected, informed and coordinated the site work. The demolition work included rerouting of a 10” active forced sewer main that was running through the site from across Joint Base Anacostia (JBAB) facilities. The stormwater management was designed with a 15-year detention requirement. This was accomplished by three bioretention facilities.  The project entailed a stormwater management system, new water and sewer utilities, site/ landscaping, architectural, structural, mechanical, plumbing, electrical with a new 600 AMP incoming service, electrical distribution system interior & exterior lighting. The unique complexity was the poor soil conditions and existing underground utilities, the project geotechnical engineer had recommended a deep pile foundation system with augured piles 18” in dia. and 55 feet deep.
